The Articulated House originated from the vague idea of what would happen if spaces were connected by joints—literally speaking, just like a human being. The body is divided/united by these joints so that each member can perform different, isolated activities without depending on one another, but at the same time without separating from the body.
Thus, the space was divided into two zones for both levels: the ground floor as a service area and a living area; on the upper floor, the division was into a master bedroom and individual bedrooms.
The two zoned areas on each level were connected/divided by an isolated joint/corridor. This results in absolute privacy for each area on the upper floor. However, on the ground floor, the two areas divided by the isolated corridor are connected by a central garden, which also serves as the main entrance. This is the result of the connection/division of the joint.
